NAWIC NSW Annual Awards for Excellence

The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) is an Australian, not-for-profit organisation formed in 1995.  NAWIC is led by a team of passionate volunteers who all strive to help champion and empower women in the construction and related industries to reach their full potential.

From Clare Fenwick, our new MCE Business Development Lead…..

“It was divine timing that I start my journey at MCE with the NAWIC NSW Annual Awards for Excellence.  After 2 years of not going out much, 1200 people across the NSW construction sector relished the opportunity to get together and celebrate the achievements of women.  Safety boots and high viz were replaced with sequins and high heels and the energy in the room was electric.  Kicking off with a colourful display to get the room even more excited, MC Johanna Griggs brought her charm and wit to the proceedings and warmly presented the awards to deserving winners, as well as acknowledging all the nominees, finalists and sponsors.

It was lovely to share the evening with my fellow NAWIC NSW committee members, many of whom I only met in person for the first time, as well as catching up with friends and associates from across the industry.  I’m excited to help organise and host our first major event – the annual NAWIC Archibald breakfast – at the Art Gallery of NSW in June.

Unfortunately, female participation in the construction industry continues to fall.  Last night was an amazing night to celebrate women and the appetite to redress the gender parity across our sector has never been stronger.  However, it was also a reminder that we need to keep having the conversations and providing the education and taking action to build a truly diverse and inclusive workforce; one where everyone feels valued, heard and supported.”
