MCE hosts the ICE’s Transtasman Lecture Tour

Management • Commercial • Engineering were pleased to host the Institution of Civil Engineers New South Wales Association members at our Barangeroo office last week.   ICE NSW welcomed this year’s ICE Transtasman Lecture Tour presenting the Barangeroo Headland Development presented by Kieron Little (Lend Lease’s General Manager Health and Safety & Barangeroo Project Director) and Ken O’Neill (Aurecon’s Bridge Leader & Barangaroo’s Design Lead).  The Barangeroo Headland project was also the winner of the ICE’s 2016 Edmund Hambley Medal for sustainable development.

The presentation was very interesting, well received and raised some interesting questions and discussion about the design/construction challenges, their successful approach to team building and engineers creating functional environments for socialising and enjoyment in city centres.   Ken and Kieron are still touring the presentation and are heading to New Zealand shortly.    Once they have finished their Transtasman tour their presentation will be made available to our membership.

ICE NSW also welcomed Catherine Cole the Institution of Civil Engineers International Director, who gave a presentation on the ICE’s current strategy and spent time with our membership to understand how the Institution can improve our services. Catherine also congratulated and presented Carol Hopper and Hugh Lawson with their Fellowship certificates.

Catherine also presented the runners up prizes to this year’s ICE Emerging Engineer Award (Australia and New Zealand) to Helen Brown and Amir Vaezi.

Finally, Catherine announced that Sydney won the opportunity to host the ICE’s Asia Pacific Conference in September 2018. The conference is part of next year’s celebration of the Institution’s Bicentennial anniversary.
